Former Alabama offensive lineman Naquil Betrand has transferred to Syracuse, he announced on social media Tuesday. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound lineman has three years of eligibility remaining.
Betrand is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native, starring at Northeast High School as a consensus three-star recruit in the 2023 class. He ranked as the No. 19 player in Pennsylvania, according to On3, trailing current SU players James Heard Jr. and Yazeed Haynes.
Initially signing with Texas A&M out of high school, Betrand chose the Aggies over offers from Syracuse, Auburn and Colorado among others. Per 247Sports, Betrand visited SU in June 2022.
He didn’t appear in a game with the Aggies and transferred to Alabama for the 2024 season. Betrand played 28 snaps in the season opener but didn’t get in-game action after. He was then removed from the roster in early October.
The No. 46 offensive lineman in the portal, per On3, is SU’s first commit in the transfer portal this cycle. The Orange will lose starting tackles Savion Washington and Da’Metrius Weatherspoon to graduation, making Betrand a potential replacement.
