The Syracuse University campus is no longer on lockdown, university officials said in an Orange Alert sent to students around 10:35 p.m. on Wednesday.

The alert read: “The emergency no longer exists. It is clear to resume normal activity. Continue to be diligent and report suspicious activity.”

After a homicide took place near Hope Avenue — roughly one mile away from the campus — on the south edge of Oakwood Cemetery, SU set a campus-wide lockdown into effect around 8:30 p.m. The university sent out Orange Alert messages through text message, email and phone call advising students to not go outside and to take shelter.

The Syracuse Police Department confirmed the double shooting resulted in the death of one victim and that at least one victim was shot in the leg. The search of Oakwood Cemetery has been called off and the suspects are not in custody, per Lt. Eric Carr of the SPD.
