Syracuse freshman Monika Wojcik was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. On Sunday versus Drexel, Wojcik won her No. 2 doubles match with Constance Levivier (6-1) over the Dragons’ Anastasia Kavounov and Rebecca Fiedler, as well as her No. 5 singles match against Fiedler in three sets (6-0, 4-6, 6-2).
The Delray Beach, Florida, native joined Syracuse for its spring season alongside freshman Haram Kim. Wojcik is one of six SU players undefeated in singles. Against Cornell, Wojcik won her No. 6 matchup against Tanya Fan in two sets (6-4, 6-3) and her doubles match with Nelly Knezkova, 6-3.
On Jan. 25, Wojcik didn’t participate in singles and lost her No. 2 doubles matchup with Knezkova 6-0 against James Madison as SU was swept in doubles. The next day, Wojcik scored her second singles victory, this time at the No. 5 spot, against Fordham’s Sophie Siem. Wojcik also picked up her second doubles win with Anastasia Sysoeva against Lorraine Bergmann and Catalina Padilla Udaeta.
The freshman’s contributions have led to Syracuse’s third straight 4-0 start under head coach Younes Limam.
