SA tables discussion on Syracuse University kiss cam controversy

Because of the length of Monday night's SA meeting, the SA assembly held off discussion on a resolution relating to the future of the kiss cam at SU athletic events.

After assembly elections ran until nearly 11 p.m. Monday at Student Association’s meeting in Maxwell Auditorium, the SA assembly opted to suspend the rest of the meeting, which would have included a discussion on making changes to the kiss cam.

Earlier this month, a man wrote a letter to the editor of Syracuse.com and said the Carrier Dome’s kiss cam during the Sept. 12 football game between Syracuse and Wake Forest condoned sexual assault and male entitlement. In the letter, the man called on SA, among others, to “review what happened” with the kiss cam.

In a post-meeting interview Monday, SA president Aysha Seedat said SA has drafted a resolution to improve the kiss cam, which SU hasn’t used in its two most recent home games, against Central Michigan and Louisiana State University. The SA assembly had originally planned to discuss the proposal on Monday before deciding to suspend the meeting after the elections.

Seedat said SA will instead discuss the resolution when it meets again, next Monday.
