SU officials grant full scholarship to son of deceased student
Syracuse University officials granted a full scholarship to the son of an SU student killed in a car accident Feb. 23.
Jason Morales, a senior sport management major, died after he was hit by a car in New York City. He left behind a girlfriend and 2-year-old son, Noel.
The university has committed a scholarship to Noel when he graduates high school and is admitted to SU, said Kevin Quinn, senior vice president for public affairs, in an email.
“This was out of respect for Jason’s leadership and friendships on campus and within the SU community, along with the commitment that he frequently spoke of in terms of being a model of educational attainment for his son,” Quinn said.
When a student passes away, the school always tries to maintain ties with the student’s family, Quinn said. The university does this in different ways that fit both the circumstances and SU’s values.
